Membership Procedure

Notice of failure to renew membership will be sent to Personal Directors / Fracture Clinic Managers if not renewed by January 1st.
Memberships lapsed after one year will be charged the reinstatement fee, membership fee, and will require the written exam to be repeated.
Memberships lapsed after three years will require re-application for membership with the completion of the written, oral and practical exams.

Upon applying for Full Member membership, please have your sponsoring Surgeon and Human Resources / Department Manager complete the forms below. Student Member applications will require the Manager Form. The forms will need to be uploaded when completing your membership application.

Associate Member - $215.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments Persons holding a position related to orthopaedic technology and having some knowledge of physiology, anatomy, therapy technique and equipment involved in the practice of orthopaedic technology, or, persons meeting the membership qualifications but who reside and practice outside Canada may be admitted to the Society as associate members. Ineligible to complete the examination process.

Full Member - $270.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments Is available to all persons who are gainfully employed in a Canadian Hospital and actively working in the orthopaedic fracture/E.R./ cast room of a Hospital and have done completed at least a minimum of 850 hours and is a Student CSOT Member. Full Members should be able to carry out the application of plaster/fibreglass/synthetic casts and traction assemblies with a minimum of direct supervision. Sponsorship of an Orthopaedic Surgeon must accompany application for membership. Members of this classification should be striving for reclassification as a Registered member. Full members have voting rights.

Industrial Member - $220.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments Persons engaged in the manufacture or sale of equipment and supplies used in the practice of orthopaedics or orthopaedic technology. Industrial members will not have a vote in the affairs of the Society, but may, with the approval of the Board, be nominated to certain standing committees. Ineligible to complete the examination process.

Registered Member - $270.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments A person who has satisfactorily completed the examinations for Registry as outlined in the Registry Regulations.

Retired Member - $185.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments This category of membership is available for retired members who occasionally work on a part time basis, ie., filling in for sickness, vacation, leave of absence, etc. This category entitles you to your membership card, diploma seal and employer notification (if applicable) as well as the journal and newsletters and reduced fees for the convention and/or meetings.

Student Member - $205.00 (CAD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: January 1st No automatically recurring payments Persons in the process of being trained "in house". Volunteering at a hospital in order to acquire clinical practice is not considered 'gainful employment' and does not count towards the required 850 hours for Full Membership. You can remain a student for a period of 3 years after which you must become an Associate member or, if eligible, a Full member.
Ineligible to complete the examination process.
